When you’re searching for quality accommodation Shanghai has to offer you, consider investing in one of the finest serviced apartments Shanghai has to offer its visitors, which can be found in the elegantly appointed Ascott Huai Hai Road Shanghai. When business (or dedicated sightseeing) has taken its toll, relax and try and catch a show at the Lyceum Theatre, or just pay a visit to this iconic locale to soak in its fantastic history. It was built in the 1930s during Shanghai’s boom area, which saw the city being flooded by expatriate populations from western nations. Originally built by a group of expats looking for a space to host some amateur drama performances, it has now grown into a prestigious performance arts venue that even acts as a satellite location for the famous Shanghai International Film Festival. Its façade boasts the beautiful art décor style that typifies western architecture of the 20s, 30s and 40s. Some famous names that have graced the Lyceum include English ballerina Margot Fonteyn, who performed at the theatre when she was a child whilst her father was working for the British Tobacco Company in Shanghai. The theatre underwent extensive renovation efforts during the early 2000s, courtesy of a Singaporean company who endowed the theatre with a classical European-style stage. The theatre’s interior boasts an air of understated elegance, as it blends contemporary minimalism with 18th-century grandeur for a once-of-a-kind ambiance. The theatre can accommodate an audience of up to 680 and can host small-scale musicals and symphonies as well as drama productions. It is truly a cherished landmark and is worth a visit during a trip to the city.
