Laxminarayan Temple

A New Delhi Landmark

Hinduism is one of the most prominent religions in India, and this faith is very intriguing to anyone who is able to experience it. With various colourful tales and legacies, many highly revered Gods and interesting praying rituals Hinduism has always been able to capture the interest of outsiders, and learning about this religion is something visitors must plan to do when in India, as religion plays an immense role in the country. A favourite not only among worshipers but tourists too is the Laxminarayan temple, a breathtaking structure in New Delhi.

The temple owes its name to who it is dedicated to – Laxmi, the Goddess of prosperity and Narayana, the preserver of the universe. There are shrines for various other Hindu Gods and Lord Buddha too at this place of worship creating a beautiful sight well loved by visitors. The temple is also commonly known as the Birla Mandir, as it was built by the Birlas, an eminent Indian family, in 1938. While many Hindu temples made distinctions according to caste at the time, this was one of the first temples that allowed all worshipers regardless of their walk of life, and this was in fact the condition upon which Mahatma Gandhi agreed to inaugurate the place of worship. When at the site visitors will greatly enjoy the peaceful atmosphere, as well as the sense of unity that is felt.

Laxminarayan Temple is not only spiritually beautiful; it is an architectural marvel as well. With high towers and pleasant gardens the site has come to be a landmark in Delhi, showcasing traces of Mughal influence in its design. The picturesque exterior is made of elegant white marble and red sandstones, giving it a color that easily draws the attention of those who see it. Inside visitors and worshipers will find walls with beautiful murals and paintings decorating them, one of the features for which this attraction is best loved. Visitors will not only get a glimpse of India’s culture and identity when they visit this temple, but it will also prove a pleasant learning experience, providing memories to be cherished.

The temple is located only a few kilometers from the air port and visitors can stop by here when they have time to spend in transit. Hotels in New Delhi Airport are an ideal option for such travellers, and for the first time a New Delhi Airport hotel is available in the terminal itself. The Eaton Smart New Delhi Airport Transit Hotel is a convenient option for those who want to freshen up or relax between flights.
