Celebrating the Changing Landscape of Art in the 21st Century

One of the most famous art galleries in the world, Mus é e du Louvre in Paris, is widely believed to be one of the foremost galleries in the world, not only in terms of its vast collections of art but also in terms of its iconic collections of renowned sculptures by artists. This Museum is also home to the well known ‘Mona Lisa’ by Leonardo Da Vinci as well as ‘Madonna on the Rocks’. While the Parisian Louvre remains to be one of the better known museums in the world, many an art enthusiast would scarcely be disappointed when visiting new cities for art remains to an interest that is shared by many a traveller and this is true for those visiting Australia and staying in Horsham accommodation.

While the Horsham Regional Art Gallery was established to exhibit and celebrate photography in 1973, by 2010, the Gallery branched out into specialising in Australian drawing and painting. The Gallery also offers the option of booking a guided tour and for the art and photography enthusiasts, such a tour can be organised with the assistance of the concierge of accommodations such as Sundowner Horsham Westlander Motel.

What commenced as a Gallery within a single room inside the Public Library of the town, soon expanded into a larger space with the assistance of the administration. In 2010, further construction for the purposes of resurfacing the walls and floors, expanding the storage area and creating a workspace took priority. At present, the Gallery hosts a photography exhibition titled ‘Through a Lens’ and displays the work of Spence Messih, Janina Green and Jo Sicluna. Other ongoing exhibits include the Polaroid Project, An Arts Project Australia 40th Anniversary Exhibition and Creative Suite, an exhibition that examines photographs from a number of different media as well as reproduction of images and alterations. The Horsham Regional Art Gallery, therefore, is a testament to the changing landscape of art in modern times.
