Four Weeks of Stomach Clenching Laughter

If laughter is the best medicine, then all the more reason to head down to Hong Kong for the Hong Kong International comedy festival from the 6th of September till the 6th of October 2012. Now in its 6th year the annual festival brings laughter to both Chinese and English speaking audiences with world class performers from across the globe taking the stage. The festival is not only a show case for established talent but is also the birth place for new comedians as there are competitions held both in English and Chinese with exciting cash prizes and opportunities to win a chance to perform at some of the most recognized comedy clubs in America.

Audiences can expect to see popular names, such as the American comedian Ruben Paul, take the stage along with other world class performers including Paul Ogata, Xavier Toby and one of New Zealand’s best comedians, Andre King. Ruben Paul who is a major hit well known in the US is expected to host the finals for the English competition while comedian Vivek Mahbubani who has previously won both the English and Chinese rounds is expected to host the Chinese competition. The festival schedule also includes standup comedy classes’ ideal for budding comedians and an after party inclusive of food, drinks, games and prizes. All in all the four week festival which is one of the largest of its kind in Asia, promises to be filled with stomach clenching laughter as it has been in previous years.

The festival is put together by the TakeOut Comedy club, and its club in Hong Kong, founded in 2007 was the first of its kind in all of Asia. The club was brought to Asia with the aim of opening up the Arena for comedians and developing new talent and in its few years of operation has been a success. The clubs founder Jami Gong is a Chinese- American comedian himself and well known for his feats in spreading laughter.
