From idyllic beaches and lively markets to sacred temples and island adventures, Koh Samui in Thailand has something for everyone; here’s more on what to expect.

Sublime Beaches

The picturesque shores of the island provide plenty of fun in the sand and surf. Chaweng Beach which is also the hub for nightlife is amongst the most popular, while Bophut Beach home to properties like Anantara Bophut Koh Samui Resort offers a laidback escape. Other hotspots include the Lamai, Maenam and Lipa Noi beaches.

Walking Street Markets

When it comes to finding great souvenirs, bargains and authentic Thai dishes you can’t beat the walking street markets in Koh Samui! Hotels in Bophut offer easy access to Fisherman’s Village Walking Street which comes alive on Friday nights, while Chaweng Walking Street and Lamai Walking Street are not to be missed either.

Buddhist Temples

Those looking to soak up some culture can visit the many Buddhist temples on the island. Amongst the most well-known is the Big Buddha Temple with a towering golden Buddha statue. Wat Plai Laem with its impressive statue of Guanyin and Wat Khunaram home to a mummified monk are some of the other noteworthy temples.

Island Excursions

Amongst the best things to do in Koh Samui is to embark on excursions to nearby islands. This includes a visit to the Ang Thong National Marine Park featuring more than 40 islands with pristine beaches, hidden lakes and enchanting waterfalls. You can also head to the islands of Koh Taen and Koh Nang Yuan, ideal for snorkelling.
