Esplanade- Theatres on the Bay: a modern day marvel

Stretching across 60,000 square meters, Esplanade is an architectural jewel of Singapore. Facilitating the growth of newer forms of song, dance and drama, the performing arts centre also creates awareness of threatened art forms. A one- day visit to Esplanade is hardly satisfactory as different performance venues offer diverse productions from around the world. The St. Regis Singapore is situated in close proximity to Esplanade and is the foremost luxury hotel in Singapore. The hotel reaches heavenly heights in its ability to create the ultimate luxury stay in Singapore. Its location is also splendid for those who wish to be inspired by the performing arts showcased at Esplanade.

Fondly called “Durian” by the locals, the theatres on the Bay include a concert hall that has seating for 1600 persons. It also houses a 2000 seat theatre and many other performance spaces that create a sense of intimacy between the audience and the performers. As for Esplanade’s unusual pet name, you might have to taste and feel the local fruit, “Durian” in order to discover the basis for the name.

Dine before or after a show by choosing from a wide variety of restaurants situated in the three story mall. You can even sip a cup of coffee while dissecting each of the performances you viewed. The performances would gain new meaning when discussed in these comfortable settings.

The program organizers are also generous, as many performances can be viewed free of charge. Be vigilant and make sure you never miss these entertaining performances. If you ever wonder about the technical aspects of a performance, you can also take a 45 minute guided tour of the theatres on the bay. You are sure to be informed about the minute details that contribute towards the magnificence of Esplanade. A visit to Esplanade will be a thrilling experience for all visitors regardless of age and personal interests.
