Getting Around Efficiently & Safely

Pattaya is not one of those places where you can just stick to your resort and call it a vacation. The city’s charm has a way of awakening the adventurer in you. So whether you planned to explore all along or were inspired to do it at the last minute, knowing how the transportation works here is key.

The Iconic Songthaews

These blue pickup trucks are the cheapest way to get around, charging 10-20 baht per person. While they’re great for travelling about like a local from your beach resort in Pattaya, Songthaews can get crowded, and their schedules may not always be regular.

Motorbike Taxis

These are great if you’re travelling solo and need a faster way to reach your destination. You’ll be provided with a helmet, and you’ll need to agree on the price before your journey begins. You can expect a fee of 40-100 baht for destinations within the city.

Ride Hailing Apps

Grab and Bolt are the two most popular ride-hailing apps in Pattaya. The pricing is more transparent, and you have the option of making cashless payments. However, their service can be stretched thin during peak times.

Private Taxis

These are comfortable and reliable, and are best for airport transfers and longer trips. Hotels like Avani Pattaya Resort provide taxi services for airport transfers, but you can also use reputable services like MWS Pattaya Taxi to hire a vehicle.

Important Tips

Cash is still the most preferred payment method, but some services do accept card payments, so having both is the safest bet. While most drivers speak basic English, it’s best to have your destination address written in Thai or use GPS for clarity.
