Perfect night entertainment at the Cambodian Circus

A Different kind of night out

The Phare Circus or the Cambodian Circus is an off-spin of the Phare Ponleu Selpak association. The name literally translates to “Brightness of the Arts”. The organization is well recognized and functions on a non-profit and private basis. It was initiated in the year 1994 as the brainchild of four Cambodian artists. The birthplace of the Phare was the Anchanh Village in the Battambang district. The circus is located in close proximity to many a boutique hotel in Siem Reap such as the Anantara Angkor Resort and others, which makes it easy for most travellers to enjoy this unique event.

The Phare Circus and the association work continuously and indefatigably towards lending support to children, young adults and families that are in need. It also strives to give the artists of Cambodia a platform that is much needed, by providing career guidance and growth. It also tries, and succeeds each time, in putting the artistic talents of Cambodia on the world map. This also means that when you watch the circus, your money is been put to good use. The money that you pay as an entrance fee is used in the building of futures, nurturing of talents and provision of homes, to people who would otherwise have no hope. It’s one of those things that make you feel like you are giving back to the universe in your own way.

The circus will take you through 60 minutes of theatrical performances, dance acts, music, athletics and acrobatics, as well as contortion performances and juggling acts that are perfectly choreographed and synchronized. Most of these acts speak of the lives of Cambodians and possess a generous serving of their much-loved sense of humour, on the side.

The shows consist of two different stories, one of which speaks about the life of a little Cambodian boy who escapes the clutches of domestic violence, which is a very real issue in the country, and elopes. He meets new friends, gains wisdom and returns home a stronger, wiser and braver man than he ever was.
