Kayaking Along A Mangrove Canal, a delightful excursion

Abu Dhabi is always an interesting place to visit and it offers a number of leisure activities for the active traveller. One of these is the opportunity to undertake a kayaking expedition in the local mangrove forests. An ideal option would be to find a hotel in Abu Dhabi that is ideally placed near a mangrove. Set alongside the waterfront, Eastern Mangroves Resort & Spa is one such option which lets you easily explore these mangroves via a kayak.

Mangrove forests occur naturally in the area and cover an extensive area of coastline. This mangrove ecosystem boasts thick vegetation and numerous kinds of different fauna. Generally kayaks used in excursions are the simple sit-aboard kind, and do not require prior experience in using them. Many kinds of excursions are available to choose from when in Abu Dhabi, including night time moonlight paddles as well as camping style overnight excursions. As participants paddle to the mangroves they will be able to view the gleaming skyscrapers of the city’s skyline in the distance.

However soon the city skyline will give way to the engrossing mangroves and a magical verdant environment will engulf the kayaker. In these swampy mangroves the visitor will come across many unexpected discoveries such as flamingos, humpback dolphins, herons, egrets, a multitude of different kinds of crabs and if you are lucky, red foxes. More common are the different kinds of crabs, along with many kinds of fish such as trevally, grouper and barracuda.

People of many nationalities and ethnicities choose to undertake kayak tours, and these include tourists, expatriates, corporate travellers and also locals wishing to spend time in the midst of nature. Kayaking is considered to be an eco-friendly pastime as it does not disturb nature as some other activities like jet skiing and speed boating may do. It is also enjoyable, relaxing and a great way to explore the verdant mangrove forests found in the environs of Abu Dhabi.
