Uncover Old Hollywood’s Iconic Film Palace at Saban Theatre

Ideally located on the eastern fringes of Beverly Hills, lies a Wilshire Blvd icon. Formerly known as the Fox Wilshire Theatre this monolithic art-deco edifice is a historic venue listed on the country’s National Registry of Historic Places due to not only its influence on Hollywood cinema and its evolution but also the grand personalities that once premiered films within the very premises. Constructed as far back as 1930 the 0.6 acre Spanish style theatre was an architectural gem designed by none other than Simeon Charles Lee who famously designed the equally revered Los Angeles Theatre and Tower Theatre in downtown L.A. Boasting a seating capacity of 2296 on opening night the venue was built and managed by the Fox West Coast Theatres circuit and employed to stage premier nights for all Fox produced cinematic offerings for decades.

Graced by who’s who in the entertainment business since the swinging 30’s the theatre has hosted Broadway productions and live performances throughout its illustrious history while also serving as a popular haunt for film starlets that lived in close vicinity to the theatre in Beverly Hills. Tipped to be Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber’s most favourite theatre space in L.A the Saban Theatre was the premier venue for Walt Disney’s Sleeping Beauty in 1959 while other notable premiers held at the Saban include the 1953 How to Marry a Millionaire film premier which featured Marilyn Monroe as well as Lauren Bacall in leading roles.

Highlight events staged at Saban Theatre in the recent past includes Stevie Nick’s ‘White Winged Dove’ HBO concert special as well as the L.A. premier of Academy Award nominated film Dreamgirls starring Beyonce Knowles in 2006. The seasonal finale of Glee’s first season was also famously taped at the Saban which also stages popular plays starring Julie Lund and Adam Pascal among many others. Offering visitors a piece of Hollywood history the Saban Theatre is still the venue of choice for some of L.A’s most coveted live shows and concerts while numerous television and film production activities are also conducted at the locale which also plays host to speaking events.
