Owl Café in Tokyo

The Latest Hoot in Town!

You’ve heard of cat cafés and dog cafés, but have you ever heard of owl cafés?! Tokyo is always as ever ready to introduce new concepts into the world and the newest craze is a café that’s filled with adorable fluffy, feathery creatures! Head over to Akiba Fukurou in Akihabara and have a hoot of a time! (Excuse the pun).

The brainchild of Akiba Fukurou, Shusaku Yasu, says that the unique café was created to provide a relaxing escape in the middle of the busy city that’s filled with glaring neon lights. “We think owls can heal our tired hearts like a therapy” says Yasu. So if you happen to head over to Tokyo don’t forget to include the café into your Tokyo ramblings. The café is situated about 25 minutes away from Yodobashi Camera. If you’re looking for a good place to stay around this area, checkout Citadines Shinjuku Tokyo as these service apartments Tokyo are just but 20 minutes away from the café.

Akiba Fukurou is home to about 25 owls whose names will delight you as much as them. There’s Charles Xavier, Snowman, Kabuki and Mr. Satoshi; Sweet Potato, Negi, Peanuts and Gorilla to name a few! For a fee of ¥1500 ($12) you will be given an hour’s time to pet and pat these fluffy little creatures that will ruffle their feathers and look at you with huge eyes that seem to peer right into your souls. Though usually in cat cafés and dog cafés you get to feed the animals, at Akiba Fukurou it is not possible as the owls are fed on a special diet of pink, frozen mice. The owls are said to be raised from birth and are treated like pets. Before you are given the opportunity to interact with the owls, you will given a brief on rules and regulations such as no flash photography, no sudden movements and no squeezing the birds.

Akiba Fukurou owl café is a great place to relax and grab a cuppa and run your hands through the impossibly soft feathers of the sweet creatures…It will be an experience that will have you Cooing in delight Owl day long!
