The location of the town, especially because of its close proximity to the airport as well as the capital makes it a preferred choice among tourists. Regarded as one of the first tourist resort towns in Sri Lanka. beach hotels, restaurants, bars have sprung up in the past and the town has become lively with both tourists and locals alike. There are plenty of places to find convenient accommodation that allows you to explore the town easily, such as Jetwing Blue located in close proximity to most bars, restaurants and clubs if you wish to enjoy a great night while here. Another option is to maybe enjoy a night in at your hotel where one can enjoy a drink at the bar and most hotels also have local entertainers such as bands playing for the guests. This in itself will make up for a great night out!
However, there are also some famous names in the town such as Sherry Land, the Lords and Rodeo. These are mostly packed with tourists and are a great place to meet like-minded travellers and enjoy a couple of drinks and dance the night away. The atmosphere is quite chilled out here given it’s a beach town hence it’s mostly a dressed down scene. Some of the clubs in the area welcome families during the day to enjoy meals as most of them have their own kitchens and turn into a place of dance and music by night.
The local community is quite welcoming to all the activities going on, however extreme behaviour will not be tolerated hence it is important to be mindful. They are probably also the best to get tips from to know the whereabouts of beach parties and weekly happenings.
