Sri Lanka is less known for its nightlife. This is because most nightclubs and casinos operate within the city limits of Colombo. In the busy financial capital of the country, you would have a good number of ways to spend your Friday/Saturday night. Depending on your preferences you could either try out one or all of these options. Colombo’s five-star hotels host a variety of nightlife activities. If this is not your cup of tea, take a drive down the marine drive and you will find a range of establishments that sell cold beer and play good music ranging from quaint to loud.

In the other main cities of the island, Kandy, and Galle, the night lights glow a little dimmer. Unawatuna, 10 kilometres away from Galle, boasts a rich underground party scene. Same could be said about Negombo, a popular tourist destination 38 kilometres away from Colombo. Both locations own world-class beaches and a large number of restaurants and pubs that are busy till dawn. If you want to be away from the city although, within close call of the nightlife hubs, one option you have is staying at a Bentota Resort. Bentota is a coastal city with a picturesque beach. Because of the recently built highway system, it is within 1-2 hours from Colombo, Unawatuna, and Negombo. And with luxurious retreats such as AVANI Bentota Resort & Spa, you can indulge in a rejuvenating spa treatment after a night of partying.

To gain the most from your night out, follow these few unwritten rules. Firstly, enjoy the street food. There are always a few roadside shops around clubs and hotels. These are open till the break of dawn and usually serve tea, coffee alongside exotic dishes. Secondly, club hopping is best done in a tuk-tuk. Do not miss out on the opportunity to experience a trishaw ride. They are a cheap way of travelling back and forth from clubs and restaurants. Finally, stay hydrated so that you wake up hangover-free the next morning.
